A Love Story with Nine Lives: Corbin’s Purr-fect Reunion

Forget Romeo and Juliet, this February, we’re celebrating a love story with whiskers, fur, and a huge dollop of heartwarming serendipity! Get ready to meet Corbin, the feline Casanova whose journey home will leave you feline good.

Two years ago, Corbin, a black and white cat with a heartthrob’s gaze, went on an unexpected adventure, disappearing from his Simcoe, Ontario home, much to the dismay of his heartbroken family. The family spared no effort attempting to find him, especially young Hudson Ryder, who shared a special connection with Corbin, but to no avail. Eventually the family had to relocate to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Little did they know, Corbin was about to begin a journey no one could have seen coming!

Sandi Fettes with Corbin

Enter Blaire Sylvester, a Simcoe resident with a nose for feline news. She spotted Corbin, snapped a picture, and shared it online. Talk about a purr-fectly timed social media post! Sandi Fettes, an animal advocate with Purrfect Companions Cat Rescue and Adoption, saw the post and recognized Corbin from a missing pet alert. She immediately contacted Corbin’s owner, Justice Ryder, and the wheels were set in motion for a meow-gical reunion.
But there was one tiny problem: distance. Simcoe to Yarmouth? Luckily, Canadian Wings of Rescue swooped in to make a family reunion in Nova Scotia a reality!

Pilot Greg Campbell loading Corbin

Volunteer pilots Greg and Clay each took a leg of this multi-day journey. After a quick visit to a vet for a check-up, neutering, and vaccinations, Corbin was ready for take-off with Greg. After a hand-off to Clay, who also acted as a temporary foster, Corbin finally landed in Yarmouth, where a joyous reunion with the Ryder family took place.
A year and half after this beautiful reunion, Canadian Wings of Rescue got a heartwarming update from Corbin’s family. They shared that he’s a big cuddle enthusiast, a lap-warming champion, and a playful disruptor of family game nights.
Corbin’s story is a reminder that compassion for animals knows no bounds. It’s a testament to the kindness of strangers, the dedication of animal rescue organizations, volunteers and the unwavering bond between humans and their furry companions. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make Corbin’s journey home a reality!

What's YOUR story?

We believe behind every donation is a person with a reason to care. We're passionate about our vision and are incredibly proud about the community who supports that with us. All animals deserve a safe journey to find the home they deserve, and we cannot be more than grateful that our wonderful donators want to help that. Even if you're not a pilot, your donations give us the legroom we need to support our rescues.

We want to ask our donators, what inspired you to support us? Was there a moment that made you think "I need to help?" What is your story?

Share in the comments down below! We would love to hear the voices that support us everyday. 💙

In our latest blog post, go behind the scenes of a real Canadian Wings of Rescue flight and see what it takes to make these transports happen.

SPOILER ALERT: It takes a huge group of passionate people who prioritize respecting, supporting, and caring for animals.

In this story, you'll follow the journey of two golden retrievers, Max and Maple from @goldenrescuecanada, as they fly toward their chance at forever homes.

From flight planning to navigating tricky weather conditions (and managing two non-stop wagging tails), it’s all in a day’s work for our volunteers.

We’d like to give a big THANK YOU to our donors! 💙

Not a pilot? No problem. You can still help us fly.

Some of our biggest heroes are those who choose to support us in other powerful ways like setting up a one-time or recurring donation.

Your gifts help fuel rescue transports, like Benny & Bailey's, care for animals, and bring them safely home.

All donations over $25 come with a tax receipt, and every bit makes a difference.

You make our work possible, month after month and we’re so grateful. Click the link in our bio to support us!
